Here is a list of some of the new shows on display in and around Toronto this week.
Sarah Clifford-Rashotte, Jennie Suddick and Cole Swanson are all showing new work in multiple media dealing with identity, the relationship between the viewer and art objects and the disgusting qualities of romanticism. Their shows are at the LE Gallery from October 5-30.
Osheen Harruthoonyan is displaying some of the diverse photos from his globetrotting adventures. At TIW from October 6-29.
Ben Woolfitt will be showing his new acrylic works “Homage to Goya” while Jeffrey Spalding shows a collection of minimalist abstracts from the 1970s. At the Moore Gallery from October 6-29.
Jason Edward Lewis’ new interactive works examine the penetration of digital technology into the everyday world. At the Edward Day Gallery from October 6-23.
Heather Goodchild uses traditional textile techniques as a means to explore the strange rituals of fictional and real organizations. At Katharine Mulherin from October 7-29.
UofT grads Alexandra Busgang and Jessica Simas are showing at the LasCaux Gallery. Simas curated Busgang’s work for the unique space. “Working through sculpture, video, and collage, she explores the psychological and environmental consequences of a culture that continuously rewrites and obliterates itself. The sustainability of this system is questioned by objects, images, and words descending into repetition and placelessness. Each quiet provocation asks the viewer to consider the relationship between time and perception, physical reality and internal thought where actions and ideas are repeated in a landscape of reoccurring cycles. Folding In is an investigation of the continuous present and the inevitability of collapse.”
The show opens on Friday October 14, at 8:00 PM. Gallery hours for October 15-16 will be from 12PM-5PM and by appointment until October 21.
